Then (it) appeared to them from after [what] they had seen the signs, surely they should imprison him until a time.

Then it seemed good to them, after they had seen the signs, that they should imprison him for a while
Then it occurred to the men, after they had seen the signs, (that it was best) to imprison him for a time
ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لَیَسۡجُنُنَّهُۥ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ٣٥
thumma badā lahum min baʿdi mā ra-awū l-āyāti layasjununnahu ḥattā ḥīni
